U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents can no longer make civil immigration arrests in and around New York state courthouses, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. Legal aid attorneys and immigrant rights organizations had called for an end to the practice in recent years.

Minneapolis City Council President Aims To Replace Police Department With ‘Transformative New Model Of Public Safety’

The Minneapolis City Council president will vote to abolish the city’s police department for a “transformative new model of public safety.” On Thursday, Lisa Bender, the Minneapolis City Council president, committed to abolishing law enforcement in the city, which is home to approximately 430,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti To Cut $150 Million from Police To ‘Reinvest’ In ‘Communities Of Color’

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Wednesday that he tasked the city to “identify $250 million in cuts” to invest more money into the black community, communities of color,  women and “people who have been left behind.” The Los Angeles Times reported that the city will try and cut between $100 million to $150 million from its police budget alone. Garcetti said it is incumbent on the city to “step up and say, ‘What can we sacrifice?’”
