nprecedentedly high tariffs on imports from China are the latest escalation in a new cold trade war which could eventually turn hot, a war we could lose if we don’t play our cards right. The new āadversaryā is China: a fascist, racist, expansionist, deceitful, dishonest, oppressive and manipulative superpower which wants to impose on the entire world the authoritarian technological hellscape itās created & imposed on its own population.
For the skeptics and the appeasers who donāt believe China is a serious threat; or human rights in China are no better nor worse than they are here in America, itās time to resurrect the lessons and arguments from the last Cold War. Lessons & arguments arguments which worked then and ought to work again now because currently, America is unfortunately a mess. A flawed, divided, fractious, chaotic melange of oligarchs and jingoists, crackers and Crips, soft corporate censorship and bureaucratic gridlock, with bursting prisons and broken ghettos, with internal chaos, divisions and simmering racial tension. Ok, so weāre not perfect!
But guess what? The choice between starting a new life in China versus coming to America has never been easier. If you chant āDeath to Americaā in Times Square, youāll continue to live and chant another day. If you chant āDeath to Chinaā in Tiananmen Square, chances are you’ll likely find yourself quickly soon dead with your internal organs being sold by the CCP to earn foreign currency. If you’re lucky enough to avoid that grisly fate, then youāll go to prison for a very long time.

In response to Americaās new tariffs, a recent CCP videoĀ has gone viral, depicting Americansāall of them obeseāunhappily working in sweatshops with facial expressions of apathy and resignation. Legions of unfortunate Americans operate soldering irons and sewing machines, doing the jobs that Chinese workers used to do for them. The message is intended to mock the Trump Administrationās efforts to bring manufacturing back to the United States completely backfires and is incredibly tone-deaf. In truth, this video is really just the Chinese admitting, āour citizens are automatons; underpaid, grotesquely exploited slaves.ā
However, Chinaās interests arenāt just being promoted by the Chinese. Right in there along with China, nodding in agreeing with their message are some of the most influential policy and financial forces in America. Itās quite the global coalition.
What a collection of private interests: Libertarianism, Inc. Conservatism, Inc., Neoliberals. Neoconservatives. Never Trumpers. Democrats. Globalists. The entire media industrial complex.
It’s no exaggeration to suggest none of these coalition members care at all about the workers toiling away in Chinese sweatshops any more than they ever cared about workers in America left abandoned in rust belt towns with nothing left for them but drugs and despair. The “coalition” only cares about themselves and their own private enrichment.
āLearn to code,ā quipped Biden. āFree movement of capital,ā proclaimed the libertarians; equally indifferent. And so from the corporate left and from the libertarian right came the same endorsement:
China, you may enslave your entire population to bring labor costs down, heavily subsidize your export industries to bring costs down even further, and then manipulate your currency to bring costs down further still in order to target strategic industries in the United States and all but destroy them.
It isnāt just American jobs China has destroyed. They deceived and conned us into allowing our pharmaceutical and steel industries, along with dozens of other essential industries, to be voluntarily obliterated.
Cheap drugs and cheap steel. Until China decides one day to pull the plug. And don’t be fooled, one day they will.
The āfree tradeā coalition cheered for this Chinese coup every step of the way. āGains of trade, free markets & comparative advantage!ā As for human rights in China or disappearing jobs in America, pay n o mind to any of that. And even now, as war with China could erupt tomorrow, they pedantically refer us to Adam Smith. Remember that? Wine from France. Wool from Scotland. Free Trade! As if these concepts they cling to are beyond criticism, immune to nuance, or unfamiliar to anyone who questions the idea of selling our nation out to the Chinese tyrants.
Institutional resistance to Trumpās tariffs is just the latest example of how single sided, supposed “free trade” fundamentalism has corrupted politics and foreign policy in the United States for many decades. When Biden opened the borders to allow entry to hordes of unskilled workers, many from nations and cultures that may prove to be utterly incompatible with our own, this same crowd stood on the sidelines and applauded. Apparently, they think ābordersā are an outdated and obsolete concept.
Sharing common causes with malevolent leftists who lust after destroy everything we believe in and everything thatās made our nation great puts everyone at great future risk. For the most part, free trade fundamentalists are also the people who apparently think the very idea of borders, language, and culture defining a nation is ātribalā and obsolete. The continue to insist we allow āfree movement of people,ā and, no big deal, weāll just fix that pesky welfare state later.
Like their communist nemesis that adroitly use them as useful idiot dupes, free trade fundamentalists donāt see nations; they see economic units which can be managed. To them, we are all interchangeable parts; and we are all dispensable. For the communists, itās the workers international. For the free trade crowd, itās a world of āfree agentsā where the ānon-aggression principleā governs smooth social functioning based on mutual transactions between peaceful parties. Itās hard to imagine how anyone could base free trade policies on something so out of touch with reality, but if you reject the non-aggression principle as being not applicable in the real world, logic would have you also reject free trade in favor of reciprocal trade.

Reciprocal trade means through regulations, restrictions on investment, exclusion from judicial recourse, tariffs, subsidies and currency manipulation, a nation erect barriers to imports. Then as a response you, must erect reciprocal barriers until a mutually beneficial understanding (a better deal) is reached. Otherwise, your nation hemorrhages jobs, eviscerates its vital industries, sells off its assets, and eventually becomes a hollowed-out, powerless shell, ripe for final conquest. Sound familiar?
Without reciprocity, the ideal of āfree tradeā is not just trite, itās a national death sentence for its adherents in instances where other powerful nations nonetheless use their own aggressive policies to their trade advantage. And that would be China. So maybe the anti-tariff coalition of corporate libertarians, corporate conservatives, neo-liberals, neo-conservatives, Never Trumpers, Democrats, globalists, and the entire media industrial complex should look at our situation a little closer and start asking themselves the tough questions.
How do we intend to deal with the communist authoritarian regime which has enslaved the Chinese people and is bent on dominating and enslaving the entire world? All the while peddling us their cheap flat screens and antibiotics? Should we continue to allow them to run psyops on the American people, steal our technology, infiltrate our institutions and use their trade surplus dollars to build the largest military in the world? Or perhaps buy up strategic real estate in America and every piece of American technology they canāt steal?
Facing such a reality is unpleasant, but at this point we no longer may enjoy any luxury of denial. For years, the Chinese military has already been busy infiltrating strategic choke points around the world with trained indusrial spies and agents. For example, the Canal Zone in Panama is already crawling with Chinese ācivilian contractors,ā ready to blow up the locks on the day we resupply Taiwan to help them resist a Mainland invasion. Free trade and the non-aggression principle arenāt bad ideas, but when it comes to geopolitics, they have very little practical utility.
Humans are typically aggressive and tribal by nature. The Chinese government is just one more aggressive actor in a world full of aggressive actors. The free trade fundamentalists are invited to cite one single example from history where a passive nation which had something an aggressive nation wanted was permitted to retain that something; land, resources, technology, you name it. It’s never, ever happened. And it never will. China, ruled by what is probably the most tribalist, aggressive regime in the world today, wants to replace America as the dominant global power and everything they do is in pursuit of that goal. If we fail to stop them in this conquest, they will eventually control the entire world.
Critics of high tariffs on Chinese imports may either continue to deny this geopolitical reality or must explain how weāre supposed to bring our pharmaceutical and steel industries back to America without tariffs and, if necessary, subsidies for our essential industries.
We are now locked and engaged in a new cold war which could make previous national struggles look easy by comparison. To secure victory, we must strengthen our alliances with friendly nations and trade partners. Regardless, America needs to decouple from China; and we need to rebuild and revitalize our vital industries here at home. In this regard, the free trade fundamentalists are the problem, not the solution. āŖ
