JB SHURK: THE DEMOCRAT PARTY REPRESENTS EVERYONE BUT AMERICANS

ggg
f there has been any confusion over what Democrats believe or whom the Democrat Party supports, this week has been clarifying.
Susan Rice: the serial liar who falsely blamed the September 11, 2012, murder of four Americans in Benghazi, Libya, on an Internet video; weaponized Intelligence Community surveillance by illegally unmasking the names of Trump transition officials in 2016; and pushed the Russia Collusion Hoax for the last decade — went on a podcast to promise retribution for any American seen as bending the “knee to Trump.” The woman who ran Joe Biden’s White House explicitly promised that “this is not going to be an instance of forgive and forget” once Democrats retake power in Washington, D.C.
This shouldn’t be a surprise. Barack Obama used the IRS to harass conservatives, and his “wingman” Eric Holder used the Patriot Act to spy on political opponents. During Joe Biden’s puppet presidency, the FBI and DOJ targeted pro-life Christians, Second Amendment supporters, parents concerned about the sexualization of their kids’ public school curricula, and anybody who could be linked to President Trump’s MAGA movement. Still, when Susan Rice is making such vocal threats eight months before the midterms, every Republican should sit up and take notice. Should Democrats reclaim power over the next two election cycles, they are going to make their abusive J6 mass incarceration look insignificant compared to the program of mass arrests and ritual humiliation they intend to unleash. The same 99%-Democrat grand juries that have shielded Democrats from criminal prosecution since Trump’s return to office will quickly sign-off on preposterous charges against every Republican under malicious investigation.
Then a couple days after Susan Rice promised to wheel out a guillotine in Lafayette Square in order to rid the country of red-capped-heads once and for all, the U.S.A. men’s Olympic hockey squad beat Canada in overtime. What fantastic news! The gold-medal victory came forty-six years to the day after Team U.S.A. upset the Soviet Union on the ice at the Lake Placid Olympic Games. The whole country was surely in a fit of jubilation, right? WRONG. Why? Because Democrats largely supported Canada’s America-hating socialists sticking it to anyone competing on behalf of “Donald Trump’s America.” Democrat-leaning sports “reporters” sounded almost depressed as they watched the men’s hockey team celebrating on the ice with American flags wrapped around their shoulders and waving above their heads. So much patriotism made Democrats’ heads explode.
Then came word that President Trump had called the players after the game. The president was giddy and proud of the young American men who had won gold medals on behalf of their nation. Trump tossed out praise enthusiastically and invited the whole team to his State of the Union address two days later. The whole thing was inspiring and heartwarming. So Democrats everywhere hated it. They blasted the men’s team for laughing at the president’s jokes. They argued that the hockey players — who had just secured victory for their country — were actually villains for being so enthusiastic to talk to the president of the United States. Democrats even found a way to disparage the stellar athletes for being part of the so-called “patriarchy.” The men’s hockey team beat their Canadian rivals and took home gold for only the third time, yet the Democrat Party found it disappointing. In the minds of self-hating Democrats, it would have been far better had Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney been in a position to laugh at the United States than for President Trump to celebrate joyfully with Americans.
While Democrats were busy crying about Team Canada’s defeat, the country turned its attention to President Trump’s State of the Union speech. We got to see quite vividly just what Democrats support. They do support criminal illegal aliens. Several Democrat members of Congress actually brought illegal immigrants as guests. They don’t support American families who have lost loved ones due to heinous acts of violence committed by illegal aliens. President Trump made this point crystal clear. He introduced several families who had lost sons and daughters, mothers and fathers to illegal alien violence. Democrat members of Congress ignored those families’ suffering. President Trump then asked members of Congress to stand up if they believed that the U.S. Government had a duty to protect American citizens from foreign nationals who have illegally entered the country. The Republicans stood. Democrats stayed seated. Imagine that. An entire political party representing half of Congress does not believe it has a duty to protect Americans from foreigners. That’s horrifying and revealing.
President Trump made it very easy for Americans to understand whom Republicans support and whom Democrats support. When the president introduced brave members of the Armed Forces who had distinguished themselves and sacrificed their bodies for the security of the American people, Republicans applauded enthusiastically. Democrats mocked their service on television. When Republicans broke out in patriotic chants of “U-S-A,” terrorist-supporting Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib was shouting, “K-K-K,” as if to disparage American patriotism as identical to support for the Ku Klux Klan (which, ironically, existed as a paramilitary force for the Democrat Party last century). When the president promised to go after Somali fraudsters who have stolen tens of billions of dollars from the American people, Somali-fraud-supporting Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar screamed at Trump, “You killed Americans,” an apparent reference to federal immigration agents having defended their own lives from Democrat attackers. When the president promised to prevent illegal aliens from driving commercial trucks across the country, Republicans applauded. Democrats glowered.
All in all, Democrat members of Congress were for criminal illegal aliens who commit fraud or hurt or kill Americans. They were against the gold-medal-winning men’s hockey squad, military heroes, protecting American citizens from foreigners, and pro-U.S.A. patriotism (although Democrats’ pro-Somalia patriotism and pro-Hamas patriotism were both on display). Eventually, President Trump couldn’t ignore the Democrats’ level of anti-Americanism being broadcast to the world. He shook his head in disbelief, pointed to the Democrats in the chamber, and soberly concluded, “These people are crazy.”
The president’s observation certainly seemed reasonable. How is it possible that half of the lawmakers putatively representing the American people hate the United States? How is it possible that Democrats show more allegiance to illegal aliens than to American citizens? How is it possible for the Democrat Party to claim to act in the best interests of the American people when it supports foreign criminals who break our laws and hurt Americans? How is it possible for Democrat members of Congress to be trusted with protecting our nation when they openly despise American patriotism and turn their backs on chants of “U-S-A?”
What a week it has been for Democrats. After Susan Rice’s vendetta video-promise, the Democrats’ pro-Canada commiseration, and the Democrats’ anti-Americanism on full display at the State of the Union, nobody should mistake the Democrat Party as having any concern for the American people. The Democrat Party represents everybody but Americans. They love foreigners but despise the U.S.A. ✪

DON SURBER: THE TRUTH ABOUT TRUMP & EPSTEIN

lll
he mainstream media may be down but its power to repeat a lie still is enough to throw an election. The cry of Epstein, Epstein, Epstein fills the headlines. Hillary faced a deposition on her association with Epstein. to divert attention, she threw shade on Trump.
I offer a few facts to bolster reader knowledge of what actually took place between the two billionaires. They were longtime friends but Trump broke off with him—a year before Epstein was indicted the first time.
A 2020 book, The Grifter’s Club, (co-authored by Miami Herald journalists) said the club terminated Epstein’s membership account in October 2007. This followed an incident where Epstein or sexually harassed the teenage daughter of another Mar-a-Lago member. Trump revoked his membership.
The two chilled in 2004, when a bankruptcy court ordered the auction of the Maison de L’Amitié (“House of Friendship”), a lavish 6-acre oceanfront estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Both Trump and Epstein competed aggressively as bidders.
Trump outbid Epstein, purchasing the mansion for $41.35 million. Trump renovated the place and sold it four years later to Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for $95 million. While Trump was counting his money, Epstein was worrying about prison—but a sweetheart deal kept him out of jail.
In 2009, Bradley Edwards, a prominent lawyer who represented multiple Epstein victims in civil lawsuits and investigations (including against publicly stated that Trump helped him.
Edwards said, “I can tell you that I talked to President Trump back in 2009 and several times after that. He didn’t think that it was a hoax then. In fact, he helped me. He got on the phone. He told me things that were helping our investigation. And now our investigation wasn’t looking into him, but he was helping us then. He didn’t treat this as a hoax.” Trump was never a target of the lawsuit.
Edwards also told Newsweek:
“The only thing that I can say about President Trump is that he is the only person who, in 2009 when I served a lot of subpoenas on a lot of people, or at least gave notice to some pretty connected people, that I want to talk to them, is the only person who picked up the phone and said, let’s just talk. I’ll give you as much time as you want. I’ll tell you what you need to know, and was very helpful, in the information that he gave, and gave no indication whatsoever that he was involved in anything untoward whatsoever, but had good information. That checked out and that helped us and we didn’t have to take a deposition of him in 2009.”
How much money did the victims get in the various Edwards lawsuits? $500 million. A half billion dollars. That was divided among 200 to 300 victims—the exact number does not seem to be known—plus a hefty legal fee which Edwards definitely earned.
I do not want to hear about helping the victims. The American judicial system worked and gave them all the financial help they needed. Every Democrat in Washington knows Trump is innocent.
Here is a partial list of those who were not so innocent and lost their jobs because of a friendship with Epstein that began after his 2009 conviction (on the 2008 indictment).
Kathy Ruemmler, former Obama White House counsel, resigned as chief legal officer and general counsel at Goldman Sachs effective June 30.
Larry Summers, Clinton’s final Treasury Secretary, will resign as a professor at Harvard. Years ago, his big mouth cost him his job as Harvard president.
Peter Mandelson resigned as UK ambassador to the U.S. in September. This month, he resigned from the Labour Party and the House of Lords. He’s been arrested.
Richard Axel, Nobel laureate neuroscientist, stepped down as co-director of Columbia University’s Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute.
Peter Attia resigned from his CBS News contributor role. David A. Ross resigned as chair of the master’s program in art practice at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Mona Juul resigned as Norway’s ambassador to Jordan and Iraq.
Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland was formally charged with aggravated/gross corruption involving Epstein. Jagland attempted suicide. Morgan McSweeney resigned as chief of staff to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Miroslav Lajčák resigned as as national security adviser to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Joanna Rubinstein stepped down as chair of UNHCR Sweden after documents showed a 2012 visit to Epstein’s island with family.
Brad Karp stepped down as chairman of the major law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and resigned from the Union College board of trustees.
Børge Brende resigned as president and CEO of the World Economic Forum. [Once you stop cheering, I’ll continue.]
Thomas Pritzker, cousin of the governor, stepped down as executive chairman of Hyatt Hotels. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem resigned as chairman and group CEO of DP World.
Finally, Sarah Ferguson and her ex-husband, the Andrew Formerly Known As Prince. She had to shut down her charity. He’s under arrest.
But you know the one man who kept his job after being associated with Jeff Epstein? Donald John Trump because he disassociated himself once he learned what a creep Epstein was. Trump also helped the victims get compensated. ✪

alifornia Governor Gavin Newsom attempted to relate to the black mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, by saying he was “just like” him because he “cannot read a speech” and scored a 960 on the SAT.
Speaking to Dickens during a book tour event on Sunday, Newsom said: “I’m not, you know, I’m not trying to impress you, I’m just trying to impress upon you, I’m like you.”
“I’m no better than you,” Newsom continued:
“You know, I’m a 960 SAT guy. And, you know, and I’m not trying to offend anyone, you know, trying to act all there if you got 940. But literally a 960 SAT guy. I cannot — you’ve never seen me read a speech. Because I cannot read a speech. Maybe the wrong business to be in.”
The implication — whether intentional or not — was impossible to ignore. Newsom framed poor intellectual performance as a shared trait with a black mayor while in a city with a near 50 percent black population.
His comments drew immediate backlash, with rapper Nicki Minaj posting: “His way of bonding with black ppl is to tell them how stupid he is & that he can’t read.” Senator Ted Cruz posted: “The soft bigotry of low expectations.”
When Fox News’ Sean Hannity criticized Newsom’s comments, Newsom lashed out with profanity:
“You didn’t give a sh-t about the President of the United States of America posting an ape video of President Obama or calling African nations sh-tholes — but you’re going to call me racist for talking about my lifelong struggle with dyslexia? Spare me your fake f-cking outrage, Sean.”
But notably, his excuse collapses under scrutiny. In 2022 Newsom posted a photo of himself “reading some banned books,” undermining his claim that his comments about not being able to read were literal and relevant to dyslexia. In another instance, Newsom apparently claimed he read a book of more than 300 pages in less than two hours.
▶️ 38 Seconds
If a Republican had said what Newsom said, the verdict would already be in. Recall the “very fine people on both sides” hoax. Responding to a 2017 Charlottesville rally in which neo-Nazis and white supremacists clashed with protesters, President Donald Trump said that people should realize that there were “very fine people, on both sides” before immediately making clear that he was “not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally.” Despite the clear comments, the propaganda press twisted the president’s comments and issued a verdict of racism.
In contrast, media are ignoring Newsom’s comments or explaining them away — because he is a Democrat.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ignored Newsom’s comments in a piece entitled “In Georgia, Gavin Newsom urges Democrats to fight ‘fire with fire.’” The Daily Beast chose to focus on Newsom hitting “Trump with brutal new insult over Kennedy Center.”
Others explained Newsom’s comments away. BET News host Marc Lamont Hill posted:
“There are so many legitimate reasons to dislike Gavin Newsom. But don’t fall for fake news. Newsom was talking to a room full of white people. He never mentioned Black people. He was talking about his dyslexia. And he made the same exact comment to a white interviewer.”
Lamont seemingly ignores that Newsom was talking to the black mayor and said he was “just like” him before saying he couldn’t read speeches and scored low on the SAT.
CNN’s Bakari Sellers rushed to announce that Newsom is “the furthest thing from a racist. His remarks show a blindness and were inartful. But leave it there. Donald Trump is racist. Gavin is not,” Sellers said.
The reflexive “blame Trump while ignoring Democrats’ derogatory comments and miscues” approach is the same strategy Democrats have relied on for years, most notably with Joe Biden.
Biden perfected the art of saying offensive, racially charged, or incoherent things — only to have them ignored entirely or dismissed as stutters and gaffes. Biden was able to hide behind his stutter to excuse behavior, for example, that would have sparked visceral backlash for any other candidate. Take Clarence Page’s article from Bowling Green Daily News in 2019:
“Now that the 77-year-old former vice president is running for president, many people understandably are asking whether his notorious gaffes, bloopers and stumbles are related to his age,” Page wrote, referring to the obvious cognitive decline Biden was experiencing. “Maybe the voters who worry about his mental fitness would be more understanding … if they knew he’s still fighting a stutter,.”
By 2024, outlets like The Giro reported black Democrats didn’t care to focus on Biden’s “stutter” or a “gaffe” because saving “democracy” was more important. And it appears the propaganda press had been following that playbook for the better part of four years until Biden’s cognitive decline became so apparent during the disastrous 2024 presidential debate that it was no longer politically expedient to ignore it.
And, just like Newsom, Biden’s problem was never just his “disability acting up.” It was also the content of what he was saying.
In 1977, Biden opposed forced busing to desegregate schools because he didn’t want his children to “grow up in a racial jungle.”
Decades later, he heralded then-candidate Barack Obama for being “the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” Rather than accuse Biden of racism, The Washington Post would later characterize those comments as “Biden fumbl[ing] his way through that backhanded compliment and walk[ing] into a racial quagmire.”
Years after that, Biden eulogized Robert Byrd, a former organizer and member of the KKK. Byrd, according to Reuters, was the “top officer in the local klan.” Byrd later apologized for his involvement in the KKK, but that doesn’t excuse Biden eulogizing him.
Biden claimed in 2019 that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” Biden’s team came out and simply attributed the statement to a gaffe.
One year later, Biden said black people who don’t vote for him aren’t really black while appearing on The Breakfast Club. “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden said.
That same year, Biden suggested to a group of black and Hispanic journalists that “unlike the African community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly different attitudes about different things.”
Despite all these statements, the media and Democrat politicians never decried Biden as an irredeemable racist — the same way they won’t call Newsom a racist.
Whether Newsom’s comments were intentionally racist is almost beside the point. By the standards the media routinely apply to the right, they absolutely qualify.
Yet Newsom, like the rest of his party, is able to say these types of things because he knows the corporate media will accept any excuse from Democrats — while they eagerly denounce Republicans as racist based on the barest pretext. ✪

THE STATE OF THE SWAMP CLOWN SHOW

hile President Donald Trump was on Capitol Hill on Tuesday night delivering a powerful, commanding State of the Union address that laid out a vision for a prosperous and secure America, the radical Left was busy hosting what can only be described as a fever-dream circus at the National Press Club.
While the adults were discussing policy, the “State of the Swamp” counter-event, hosted by the anti-Trump group Defiance.org, descended into a literal “Animal House” scenario.
The optics weren’t just bad; they were humiliating. The event, hosted by the anti-Trump group Defiance.org, featured a “who’s who” of people the American electorate rejected or tuned out years ago.
- Robert De Niro: The actor, who seems unable to speak without veering into a scripted rage, called the President a “lunatic” and claimed the country is “imploding.”
- The Media Gaslighters: Jim Acosta, Don Lemon, and Mehdi Hasan were all in attendance, presumably to console each other over their plummeting relevance.
- The ‘Lawfare’ Brigade: George Conway and Glenn Kirschner showed up to continue their endless, failed predictions of the President’s “imminent” demise.
According to The Guardian, the seating area was filled with green, frog-themed swag. The display was a tribute to the so-called “Portland Frog Brigade,” a group that wore inflatable frog costumes during last year’s demonstrations against federal immigration agents.:

Oregon Representative Maxine Dexter actually took the stage with the dancing frogs behind her:

Maxine Dexter: “I’m a mother. I’m a physician, and I have a flag. I am the proud representative for Oregon’s third Congressional district… And tonight, I defy Trump and his authoritarian project by standing in joyful, radical, peaceful resistance with the Portland Frog Brigade.”
The “entertainment” didn’t stop at frogs. The Left reached into the bottom of the barrel to bring out Louis Robert Potylo, a “performance artist” known as “Robby Roadsteamer.”
Potylo, who has built a career out of being detained by ICE during unhinged protests in Portland and Minnesota, took to the stage in a giraffe costume while bragging about his arrests:

▶️ BIG BROTHER IS HERE & IT’S CHINA

BIG BROTHER IS HERE & IT’S CHINA

ver the past decade, many Americans have voluntarily shared their private lives and personal information with the Chinese government through digital platforms and connected devices. They do so through cloud computing, mobile applications, and internet-connected security cameras, which create unprecedented volumes of sensitive personal data, some of which fall under the jurisdiction of the Chinese government.
TikTok is the most widely known example. Policymakers and experts have warned that its data practices and ownership structure create risks that user information could be accessed under Chinese law. The U.S. Government has restricted its use on government phones and mandated divestment. Danielle Pletka of the American Enterprise Institute warns large-scale personal data collection can create vulnerabilities for blackmail or coercion if such data is accessed by a hostile foreign government. Even lawful but private behavior could potentially be exploited.
Home security cameras should raise similar concerns. Many Americans have installed them inside their homes, including in private living spaces. A recent study found that six out of ten foreign apps originate in China; and many of them aggressively share user data, including messages and financial information. Cameras that are manufactured by or rely on software or cloud services operated by Chinese companies are subject to Chinese jurisdiction, raising serious national security and privacy concerns.
Chinese law permits authorities to compel companies to assist with intelligence and security work under certain circumstances. This creates an inherent risk that sensitive data could be accessed without users’ knowledge. Imagine military members gathering in the backyard, discussing last week’s exercises with Chinese intelligence literally watching them. It is a counterintelligence nightmare.
The Rainey Center has identified at least 16 smart home apps headquartered in China, including Hong Kong. Combined, they have 95 million users (some users overlap). Most are used in households of several people, so China likely has access to the private lives of more than 100 million Americans.
Home cameras made in China or using Chinese software are the most popular in America, despite non-Chinese competition. 68 million U.S. households use home cameras, overwhelmingly Chinese brands. At least one security camera is installed in 52 percent of U.S. households, exposing Americans to data risks. Most hardware is manufactured abroad. Software updates and cloud storage can place data under foreign jurisdiction. In some cases, companies market products as American brands while relying on Chinese manufacturing, software, or backend infrastructure, making these connections opaque to consumers.
Nebraska recently sued Resideo, an Arizona-based smart home company, alleging that it failed to adequately disclose its supply chain and data-handling practices. Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers warned that Chinese intelligence services can compel manufacturers operating under Chinese law to assist them. This case highlights gaps in transparency requirements and underscores how consumers may expose themselves to security risks.
Tuya Smart is one of the biggest players. It provides software platforms used by a wide range of smart home devices. Its platform serves tens of millions of users worldwide. One of Tuya’s major investors is Tencent, a Chinese technology company subject to China’s 2017 National Intelligence Law, which authorizes Chinese authorities to compel organizations to assist with intelligence and security work under certain conditions. This creates legal obligations sharply different from U.S. and European privacy protections.
AI is another concern. Its development depends on access to massive datasets. U.S. privacy laws and market constraints limit the collection, sale, and use of personal data. China’s system of military-civil fusion creates incentives for data sharing between private firms and the state. This asymmetry risks giving China an advantage in civilian and military AI development.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology further requires that all internet services operated inside China, including websites and apps, comply with data-sharing laws. Foreign companies must obtain an Internet Content Provider license to use Chinese apps and servers, primarily AliCloud (owned by Alibaba), and consent to sharing their data with the Chinese government. Chinese law requires all domestic apps to use Chinese servers. One businessman who refused to use AliCloud told us that his costs tripled.
The Nebraska lawsuit also illustrates that current law allows companies to sell products that rely on foreign-controlled software or cloud services so long as minimal disclosures are made. Consumers often prioritize affordability over unseen national security and privacy risks, making disclosure alone an inadequate safeguard.
The United States should prohibit the use of Chinese-controlled software in security cameras, require rigorous hardware certification and inspections, and mandate that sensitive data generated by consumer surveillance devices not be stored in Chinese data centers. Achieving this will require substantial investment in domestic data infrastructure and energy generation, including nuclear power, as well as regulatory reform to accelerate permitting and construction.✪
▶️ THE MAN WHO MIGHT WRECK THE COUNTRY

THE MAN WHO MIGHT WRECK THE COUNTRY

fff
he zeitgeist is a rough beast, hard to ride as it slouches into the unknown. Our country is trying to hang on while a party of goblins vexes and needles the beast from behind, and you cannot make them stop. Sense-making gets to seem impossible.
We don’t have an explanation from Senate Majority Leader John Thune as to why he will not do what is within his power to do: pass election reform, known as the SAVE Act, by changing the filibuster procedure. At midweek Sen. Thune said Republicans were “not unified on pursuing a talking filibuster.” Understand that bringing back a real filibuster, with continuous speech in the well of the Senate, only requires the Majority Leader’s say-so, meaning Mr. Thune is prevaricating, concealing the truth.
Which might be that he does not want to pass election reform. It appears he wants to set up the midterm elections with the now-familiar kit of unverifiable mail-in ballots, millions of non-citizen motor-votes, and dragged-out vote-counting so that Democrats will seize control of the House (if not the Senate) in order to crank-up the impeachment machine again and finally get rid of President Trump. It does not look like anything else, certainly not any kind of cunning game.
What might change that would be an FBI analysis of the 2020 election year ballots, voter rolls, and vote tabulation tapes recently extracted from the Fulton County, Georgia, Elections Hub, leading to indictments. They’ve had this mass of material for a month. There was already plenty of preliminary evidence of fraud from earlier investigations — which is how come U.S. Magistrate Judge Catherine Salinas of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia found probable cause to approve a search warrant for the FBI. They must have an idea by now of what the evidence shows. It’s not that complicated.
There’s no fixed statutory timeline for a referral. The FBI can pass along the matter to the DOJ for prosecution whenever they determine the evidence is sufficient. Referrals are customarily secret, as they occur during ongoing investigations and involve sensitive, non-public information. DOJ policies emphasize confidentiality in pre-charging stages to protect investigations, potential witnesses, sources, and the integrity of any future prosecution. In general, the public learns of an FBI referral only indirectly — through later developments like indictments, or news media reporting via “sources.”
Criminal referrals on the Fulton County case might have already been made, and indictments might be forthcoming. That would have to prompt some kind of attitude adjustment for Senate Majority Leader Thune on behalf of election reform. It could happen at any time. It would at least put Senator Thune between a rock and a hard place. It’s well-understood that at least 80-percent of people polled want the SAVE Act passed.
There is no debating position that reasonably argues against it. You might have noticed that Mayor Mamdani of New York City called for volunteers to shovel snow in latest blizzard, and that anyone who stepped-up was required to show two types of photo ID to work the job. Yet, Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), aligns with the party’s longstanding opposition to voter ID laws, including the SAVE Act. No need to go figure on that. It’s just arrant dishonesty.
The President emphasized clearly why the Democrats are against election reform in this week’s State of the Union speech: because the party can only win elections by cheating, by employing massive systematic fraud. He said it so that everybody tuned-in could hear it, and the Democrats just sat stone-faced on their side of chamber — and that was only minutes after they refused to stand for the proposition that the government’s main job was to act in the interest of American citizens.
It’s unlikely that the President can alter election procedure himself, through Executive Order or by declaring some kind of national emergency. Any attempt would be instantly litigated and shut down by the judiciary. The Constitution assigns primary authority over the “times, places and manner” of elections to the states (with only Congress able to alter them by law).
Either Senator Thune will do his duty or not. He must have some self-awareness that he risks going down as the greatest villain in our history, the man who wrecked the country. Does anything like personal honor still exist in this land? ✪

THE SENATE GOES TO THE DOGS

merican voters have overwhelmingly spoken: They want integrity in their elections — even if integrity infrequently comes in their politicians. The do-nothing U.S. Senate has heard their pleas and is giving them … dog parades. As the republic hangs in the balance, all the GOP-led Senate seems to be able to accomplish is dressing up dogs in funny costumes.
That’s right, North Carolina’s retiring senator, Thom Tillis, earlier this month put forward a resolution seeking to use the atrium in the Philip A. Hart Senate office building for a “Bipawtisan Doggi Gras Pawrade.” The resolution passed by unanimous consent so the pooches were paraded on Wednesday:
▶️ 34 Seconds
How obtuse is that? As the Republic hangs in the balance, all the upper House seems to be able to accomplish is dressing up dogs in funny costumes. But who doesn’t love a costumed canine?
You know what else people love? Having faith in their elections. That’s why voters overwhelmingly support the core provisions in the SAVE America Act, a bill that requires documentary proof to register to vote in Federal elections and voter identification at the polls.
But that’s too hard for a slow-moving body that’s grown quite fond of hitting the “easy” button. The Republican majority could try, but why bother, leadership moans. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D. claims there’s no consensus in his conference to fight for the election-integrity reform package:
▶️ 1 Minute 34 Seconds
Clearly, the 45 Democrats (and two Independents who vote like Democrats) in the minority despise the bill because it would go a long way in preventing non-citizens from registering and voting in U.S. elections. But there are more than a few Republican senators who like to talk a big game about the critical importance of voter verification but who don’t want to put in the sweat equity to bring the SAVE America Act to the president’s desk.
✪ Make Bernie & Dick Work For It
Republicans have the tool to do it. The “talking filibuster” — the means to get around the Senate’s 60-vote rule to move legislation to a vote without “nuking the filibuster.”
Republicans could force Democrats to literally stand up for their “beliefs.” Unlike the oft-used “silent filibuster” which requires little of the opposition, the talking filibuster would require Democrats to debate the SAVE America Act non-stop without taking a break. Not for dinner. Not for a smoke. Not to use the bathroom. The talking Fils can drink water — and milk, apparently.
The Dems would each get two speeches. They can tell America all about how the bill is “Jim Crow 2.0” and voter suppression and all that other crap, but they’ll tire out or make a deal to end debate. This Senate is Boomerville, with the median age at nearly Medicare-eligible, according to Pew Research. Let Bernie Sanders and Dick Durbin try to do a Mr. Smith without a potty break. Eventually, Democrats will relent.
Their time will be up. And the 60-vote threshold disappears. “Once Democrats exhausted all their allowed speeches and motions or yielded the floor, the bill would go straight to a vote, and only a simple majority of 51 senators would be needed to pass the bill,” Heritage Action explains in its Guide to the Talking Filibuster published this week.
▶️ 3 Minutes 44 Seconds
However, it does require a little work from Tillis and his dog and pony show team. They would have to hang around Washington, D.C. for more than their usual few days a week. They wouldn’t have to stay on the floor, but close enough so Thune could call as many senators as needed to meet quorum. Debate would then resume, the guide notes.
But actually doing their jobs seems a bridge too far for some work-averse Senators. Hence, Thune’s problem achieving consensus.
✪ Grow Up?
Tillis, who has come to terms with his RINO-ness, may not be bright enough to know the optics on his annual doggy parade are horrible amid another stupid government shutdown and a minority party that doesn’t believe that “the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.” Or maybe he’s just that spiteful, making sure Trump doesn’t get another victory on his way out the Senate door.
Tillis — and the Senate in general — heard an earful from critics. Tillis tried to laugh off the criticism, but his “tone hardened,” according to The Washington Post. “I don’t find their comments particularly well-informed,” Tillis said. “Grow up. I mean, my god, you can walk and chew gum here.”
They’ve shown the walking (or parading) part, but if the gum is passing the SAVE America Act, then the Republican-controlled Senate right now seems incapable of chewing.
So, when the balloting begins weeks before November’s midterm elections and the SAVE America Act is just another dead letter stuck in a do-nothing upper house, just remember when this Republican-controlled Senate went to the dogs.✪
