We Must Have A Desire For The Inspiration And Companionship Of The Holy Ghost

⭐️ An original Sunday message of Faith authored by The New Americanist’s RailBoss

y Brothers and Sisters, Friends all, I begin with this story: Years ago, we lived on a very small plot of land in Utah that we called our farm. We had a cow and a horse and a chicken and lots of children. One Saturday night, I was to drive to the airport for a flight to a conference in California, but the cow was expecting a calf and was in trouble. The calf was born but the cow could not get up. We called the veterinarian, who soon came. He said the cow had swallowed a wire and would not live through the day. I copied the number of the animal by-products company so my wife could call them to come and get the cow just as soon as she died. Before I left, we had our family prayer. Our little boy said our prayer. After he asked Heavenly Father to “Bless Daddy in his travels and bless us all,” he then started an earnest plea. He said, “Heavenly Father, please bless Bossy cow so that she will get to be all right.” In California, I told of the incident and said, “He must learn that we do not get everything we pray for just that easily .” There was a lesson to be learned, but it was I who learned it, not my son. When I returned Sunday night, Bossy had “got to be all right.” This process is not reserved for prophets alone. The Gift of the Holy Ghost operates equally with men, women and even little children. It is within this wondrous gift and power that the spiritual remedy to any problem can be found.

Clearly, this young child had the faith to pray for help for the family cow and the belief that Father in Heaven would heal it! We know that faith defined, is an hope for things which are not seen, but which are true. Kind of like the faith that drove Christopher Columbus across uncharted oceans and upon the shores of this New World. Praise God for the gift of the Holy Ghost that was working upon that man! I also believe the Pilgrims and our Founding Fathers were led by the power of the Holy Ghost, to claim this land in order for God to show a Mighty Work and a wonder among the honest in heart. I love the story about George Washington: whom amidst one of the lowest points of the Revolution, while plagued with loss and suffering, and with some of his closest officers doubting and working against him in the cause for liberty, retired to a solemn grove of trees, on his knees, and asked for divine Providence. Each of these stories are examples of desire, hope, faith and prayer.

Another story from early American history: “Grandpa Merril pulled his carriage into the yard of a friend where he and his wife and one child would sleep for the night, the rest of his family sleeping in the house. Shortly after he had retired for the night, the Spirit whispered, warning him “Get up and move your carriage.” He got up and moved his carriage a distance from where it had stood. As he was returning to bed, the Spirit whispered to him again, “Go and move your mules away from that Oak tree.” He did this and then retired once again to bed. Not more than 30 minutes later, a whirlwind caught the tree to which his mules had been tied and broke it off at the ground. It was carried 100 yards through two fences. The enormous tree, which had a trunk 5 feet in circumference, fell exactly upon the spot where his carriage had been parked.By listening to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, Grandpa Merril had saved the lives of his family, himself and his mules.

Now, the Lord does not always tell us everything we want to know, but I promise you that, THE LORD WILL ALWAYS GIVE YOU ONE PROMPTING before any trouble, decision or question may beset you. Our job is to always be listening. The Lord may give you several options. Sometimes we are blessed to choose between two things that are right; or we may be facing two things that are wrong. The lesser of two evils is never an option. We know not the Lord’s timetable, but time and experience will aid our thoughts. The world we live in is filled to overflowing with instant gratification. The principle of hard work, thoughtful study and prayerful supplication has become a hiss and byword. The good things in life have been perverted. The world has taken no thought as to the repercussions of their actions. To thwart this unsteady path, God has given us a plan. A pattern, if you will. This pattern, since the beginning of time, has been to study it out in your mind, ask God if it be right; and if it is a right thing, God will cause a burning in your bosom, therefore you shall know that it is right. If it is not, there will be no such feeling or even a stupor of thought.

My Friends, do not expect to be entirely free from trouble and disappointment, pain and discouragement. These are the exact things we were sent to this Earth to endure. THIS IS THE TIME TO PREPARE TO MEET GOD! All things must have an opposition, and we have that in spades. Your character is strengthened by your resistance to evil. That tells me you are super human! I promise you that if you remain faithful, untold blessings will be bestowed upon you, even the opening of the windows of Heaven cannot be withheld from view.

It is no coincidence that we have been saved for these days. God saved His strongest souls for these times because He knows we will be able to uphold His will. Our Dear Savior has unlimited blessings in store for you if you will but ask and knock. I love this poem: With thoughtless and impatient hands, We tangle up the plans, The Lord hath wrought. And when we cry in pain, He saith, Be quiet man, While I untie the knot. (Unknown)

Mark Twain’s fictional character, Huckleberry Finn, knew the importance of having an honest heart. As he knelt down to pray…...

“the words wouldn’t come. Why wouldn’t they? It warn’t no use to try and hide it from Him….I knowed very well why they wouldn’t come. It was because my heart warn’t right; It was because I warn’t square; it was because I was playin double…..I was trying to make my mouth say I would do the right thing and the clean thing,…..but deep down in me I knowed it was a lie—and He knowed it. You can’t pray a lie—I found that out.” (Mark Twain)

My friends, I wish the best for each and every one of you. I know our benevolent God has His eye upon you. He only wants His children to return unto Him as pure and clean as when He presented you to your Mother. God has given each of us the gift of the Holy Ghost to help us navigate the foibles of this earthly realm. Remember: Hard Work, Prayerful Study, Worship Often and Serve our Fellow Men. These are Godly principles.

I know that God Lives. I know that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem the earth from sin. May we all act in accordance with His will.

In the Sacred Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.🙏
